Guide for shops on Jobber

Jobber Bookkeeping or an outside bookkeeper: which fits your shop?

Jobber now sells its own bookkeeping service inside the app. Here is what it includes, which shops it suits, and when an outside bookkeeper is the better fit. Every Jobber detail links to Jobber’s own page.

What Jobber Bookkeeping is

Jobber Bookkeeping is an add-on Jobber launched in September 2026. You get a named Jobber bookkeeper who handles setup through monthly reconciliation, which means matching your books to your bank and card statements. Your books are closed within five days of each month end, and you get a text when they are done. You also get financial reports, a monthly summary of trends and red flags, and a business review with your bookkeeper. If you are behind, the bookkeeper can catch up as much as 24 months of old books for a one-time cost. As of October 2026 it starts at $149 a month, priced by your annual revenue, and it can be added to any Jobber plan from Core to Plus. It is for US customers only.

The books live inside Jobber. You connect your bank and card accounts with a read-only link, and transactions are sorted into a chart of accounts (your list of income and expense categories) set up with your bookkeeper. Jobber produces a profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow statement and trial balance. It is open to paying US accounts, and not to trials or to franchise or distribution channel accounts.

By Jobber’s own page, the service does not file taxes. The bookkeeper prepares a yearly tax packet, and your accountant files from it.

A good fit

Which shops Jobber Bookkeeping suits

Jobber Bookkeeping suits smaller shops that want their books kept in the same place they run jobs, quotes and invoices. Jobber’s own comparison page describes it for owners who are doing their own bookkeeping today and want one system and one subscription instead of two. It fits best when your needs are simple: a US business, no large stack of supplier bills, payroll for hourly staff that runs through Jobber’s Gusto link or is handled elsewhere, sales tax in one place, and a CPA who is happy to work from a year-end packet. For an owner-operator or a small crew that has been doing its own books, it takes a monthly chore off the owner without adding another program.

When an outside firm fits better

Six signs your shop needs an outside bookkeeper

An outside bookkeeper usually fits better once the books need to do more than record jobs and payments. The common signs are: you want your books to stay in QuickBooks Online, where your CPA already works; you pay salaried, commission or subcontract staff; you buy materials on account and pay supplier bills; you collect sales tax and need the returns filed; you want profit per job that counts every cost; or you work in more than one state or run more than one company. These are jobs a bookkeeping firm working in QuickBooks Online is set up to handle.

  1. 1

Your books stay in QuickBooks Online with your CPA

Jobber Bookkeeping keeps its own chart of accounts and its own statements inside Jobber, and its help article explains how to replace QuickBooks Online with it. If your CPA already works in your QuickBooks file, or you want years of history kept there, an outside bookkeeper can keep working in the file you own. Jobber's sync keeps sending clients, invoices and payments to QuickBooks Online.

  2. 2

    Payroll beyond hourly Gusto timesheets

Jobber's Gusto link sends approved timesheet hours, and optionally reimbursable expenses, for hourly employees in the US. Salaried, commission and contractor staff are not supported by that link. Jobber's bookkeeping page does not list payroll among its services. If you pay salaried managers, commission techs or 1099 subcontractors, someone still has to run that payroll and book it.

  3. 3

    Supplier bills

Jobber's own comparison page points businesses that manage accounts payable (the bills you owe) and pay suppliers toward QuickBooks. If you buy materials on account from supply houses, an outside bookkeeper can enter those bills, match them to statements and schedule payment.

  4. 4

    Sales tax filings

Jobber's page says its bookkeeping service does not file taxes. Your accountant files using the tax packet the bookkeeper prepares. If you collect sales tax, someone still has to file the returns on time, in every state where you owe them.

  5. 5

    Job costing with every cost

Jobber's own job costing, on its Grow plan and up as of October 2026, works from the labor costs, item costs and expenses you enter in Jobber. If you want profit per job that also counts supplier bills and full payroll costs from your books, an outside bookkeeper can tie Jobber's job data to the costs in QuickBooks.

  6. 6

More than one state or more than one company

Jobber's comparison page suggests staying with QuickBooks if you keep separate books for more than one business or legal entity, or use accrual accounting. Working in several states usually means sales tax and payroll filings in each one, which is work an outside firm can take on.

Six questions to answer first

Six questions settle most cases. Your answers show whether simple books inside Jobber will cover you, or whether you need a bookkeeper who also handles payroll, bills and tax filings in QuickBooks Online. If most of your answers are “no” or “one”, Jobber Bookkeeping is likely enough. If several are “yes” or “more than one”, talk to an outside firm before you decide.
